Tuscany Travel Tips
The little things worth knowing before you arrive.
The little things worth knowing before you arrive — so you can spend less time figuring things out and more time enjoying where you are.
Getting here
Arriving in Italy
Please review your individual flight plans alongside the arrival details Volley & Vine shares with you before the retreat. If anything is unclear, just reach out — we're happy to help.
Late April / Early May
What the Weather Feels Like
It's spring in Tuscany. Days can be mild or pleasantly warm, while mornings and evenings are often cooler. Rain is possible.
Our advice
Layers are the best strategy — a sweater, a light jacket and a small umbrella will cover almost everything.
On foot
Walking in Italy
Historic towns are best explored on foot, and they often have:
- ✓Cobblestones
- ✓Hills
- ✓Stairs
- ✓Pedestrian-only areas
Comfortable walking shoes are essential.
Euro
Money
Italy uses the Euro. Cards are widely accepted, but a little cash is useful for cafés, small purchases, markets and tips.
Staying connected
Phones
Check international roaming with your carrier before you leave, or set up an international plan or eSIM.
Power
Electricity
Italy uses European outlets. Bring the right plug adapter — and a portable charger for long days out.
Gratitude
Tipping
Tipping in Italy is appreciated but modest. Many restaurants include a small cover charge (coperto). For good service, rounding up or leaving a few euros is plenty. At a café bar, a coin or two is a kind gesture.
Treasures
Shopping
- ✓Leather goods
- ✓Wine
- ✓Olive oil
- ✓Ceramics
- ✓Local food products
A reminder
Leave some room in your suitcase. You'll want it.
Slow down
The Pace of Life
“Tuscany rewards those who linger.”
Resist the urge to see everything. Stay for a second espresso, wander without a plan, let lunch run long. The moments you'll remember most are rarely on the itinerary.
